Why Would Your Cervix Swell

some reviwes on the debut album Reflect

SANDSZINE - by Alfredo Rastelli
The two dead bodies in question are those of Luca and Andrea Reali Mauri, members of I / O and Kokoro Mayikibo (review of their debut soon), I would say more than dead bodies in charge of the sacrifice and self-destruction button but still life. The dead body, more than anything else could be the rock on which the two reserve a particular treatment reminiscent of the first fundamental work in Royal Trux. Yes, I know, 'dancing on the corpse of rock' is an expression that you've heard hundreds of times, often thrown out to fuck, but the work of destruction that these two Milanese put in place not to be taken seriously. The album was created on a session-based improvised drums, guitar, percussion, bass, sax, then collected, sectioned, processed and mixed by the same Luca Mauri (aka look). "Reflect" is a hard rock mutant, diseased, rough and dirty, dip it in the garage and extremely noisy. Like Royal Trux, The Two Dead Bodies deconstruct the genre, breaking it down into its parts and typical distorting the basic features. The work in the production has been instrumental in creating a single black hole of layered sounds and violent, like a rock version of Morceaux_de_Machines. We see a speed garage (sharper in Part 4) drowned in a tangled skein noise (part 1), metal percussion tribal wrapped in sharp diagonal electronic (part 2), and remnants of radical free improvisation (part 3), and even a ballad sui generis (part 5). An album that reconciles us with the rock.

The two dead bodies in question are those of Andrea Reali and Luca Mauri Ebria the tour and already in the I / O, but seem to feel like playing anything but dead. The first impression of listening to me reminded of God with great ferocity the Kevin Martin-era supergroup industrial-metal (with several inserts jazz) where people have fought the caliber of John Zorn and Justin Broadrick. Maybe we are not the same peaks, and ferocity is also much more diluted, mechanical, cold, but it is still a duo with great potential. Rhythmic square flashes punck-hardcore (rock & roll almost diverted at times, as in Part 1), feedback modulated voices that awful (but never intrusive) magmatic stasis, dissonance: this is the recipe for Two Dead Bodies, which will be appreciated by fans of today who is crazy about Liars and Wolf Eyes, or who remembers with nostalgia the God or the metal of the schizoid Naked City. Unlike all these members, the guys here are just in two, and that's what makes most of the difference, giving us music so that the end is so aggressive, but very minimal and thus acquires a certain originality. Originality
which finds its climax in the final long (including the ghost 'reprise' Part 5, with his seductive voice and the mantra of just growing low-and hi-hat. For those who are my taste, the best track and the road follow in the coming days.
also to underline the fact that this is the first collaboration between Afe and Bar La Muerte Records, and who makes his somewhat the same distance between the two musical styles, where the electronics of the second here is mainly head dei raffinati effetti in fase di mixaggio dello stesso Luca Mauri.

CHAIN D.L.K. - by Eugenio Maggi
The Two Dead Bodies of this surprising release belong to Milanese musicians Luca Mauri and Andrea Reali, both active in two excellent bands named I/O (experimental improv/jazz/funk, with an eponymous cd on Ebria, see archive) and Kokoro Mayikibo (indie/white funksters, who have released their debut album in the meantime). Mauri plays guitar in the former and drums in the latter, while Reali is a remarkable vocalist for both. TDB were born as an improvised session which took place in 2005; then, Mauri, also active as a solo electronic soundmaker (hey! Now that I think of it, the review of his DIY cdr as 00 was one of my very first reviews for ChainDLK, then in its printed heydays... ages ago!), mixed and cut-up the recordings on his pc with a sort of Macero-like taste for layering and a great final result, matching the warmth of a live recording and the tricks of a skillful reconstruction. "Reflect" is also the first non-electronic record in the AFE catalogue, but if you consider this has been co-released by Bruno Dorella (OvO, Ronin, etc.)'s Bar La Muerte you can start guessing what this sounds like. Its roots are indeed in the noise-rock/no-wave cauldron: the first track, later reprised and brutalised in the fourth one, starts with a basic noise-punk blast delivered with garage intensity, but right from the second piece, based on hypnotic drum loops and sludgy guitar feedbacks, the great mixing job transfigures that initial violence in a much more subtle and oblique approach. Track 3 indulges in jazzy guitar lines and sparse cymbals, and it's possibly the closest one to the sound of I/O and their forefathers Starfuckers/Sinistri. The music becomes less noisy and dense, but the two never let the tension go. The most refined and arguably best piece is the last one, where Mauri's minimal guitar plucking and Reali's mantra-like vocals are matched with electronic drones and a train-like rhythm of looped charleston kicks. The whole record is extremely enjoyable and coherent, despite mixing so many different inputs and influences, from free jazz to Liars or Eyehategod, and given the results I truly hope this will not Remain a one-off project.

SODAPOP by andrea ferraris
The two dead bodies in black bags are those of Luke and Andrew to the century guitar Voice of the I / O and drums and vocals / sax Mayikibo of Kokoro. "Dead Bodies" and then do "death ambient"? No, and even "death metal" ... I'll never established that the shoulder and Bisio Zelig encontrado to enter the "live" in this review. The disc rougher and less psychedelic recent catalog Afe, not surprisingly co-produced with the ovesca Bar La Muerte, a kind of proto-industrial, no wave, Skin Graft, post-punk that passes easily deformed by the mallet of the opening trip to full-scale closure. A deformity that is a time for inexperience and less likely (the pre-internet world, you remember sir ?!...) belong only to certain groups of Swiss industrial and something in German martial rigor of these tracks all in all it was. A little 'as if a group "rock" of the Skin Graft was remixed by Mick Harris in a day "soft". Batteries are going to disappear in reverse, feedback loop, dissonance by Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Lydia Lunch only missing but at least there is the specter of Blix and when members were "and were" (Which is a slogan style "wins and convinces" Craxi era?). Except for the opening of the unexpected conclusion, as regards the use of their psychosis "two dead bodies" were certainly not spared. If I liked the beginning but struggled to find completely comfortable throughout the journey listening hours after listening to me ... so much easier to tune? If I write that "wins and convincing"?.

RockLab - by George Pace
Since now we have marched over a bit 'all seem almost grotesque - and least rhetorical - Talk about the corpse of rock reworking of noise standard of rock, of distortion and agony, and all that at the time was already wasted about Skin Graft, Royal Trux, Butthole Surfers and many others. What concerns us here is to see how the two dead bodies (nee Luca Mauri and Andrea Reali, keepers of the project improper I / O and label Ebria) manage to dig up the body to flush out rock and tribal rhythmic component and transformed with it, along with the garage in the first track, the noise in the second, improvisation, new garage, and in handling the loop in reverse. All this from a long recording session-based guitars, sax, bass and drums then cut into five parts and reassembled / effective in the study (these days the practice of post-production seems to be coming back strongly to the surface outside the experimental areas of the classics): music is music release of dead bodies, murder, ectoplasmic , devastating, mantra - in the final minutes of twenty-six resounding bass and vocals. Liars, Magik Markers and Hospital approved heavily.
